Because leopards are basically nomadic, solitary animals, your leopard “family” may include several different individuals, changing over time. Some are females caring for young cubs. Others may be young males. And among the “family” you have adopted, there are probably older leopards, just trying to find enough prey in their increasingly fragmented habitats to stay alive.

Leopards and other wild cats have long captured people’s imaginations, but they are also feared by people who have moved into their habitats and now compete with them for the food, water, and land they both need to survive.

There is an urgent need to find ways to make space for leopards and other wide-ranging predators. Your adoption will help AWF impement this key objective, through the Laikipia carnivore project in Kenya, the large predator research project near Chobe National Park, and our work at Tanzania’s Lake Manyara Ranch.

More information on the interactions among these most secretive, elusive, and shrewdest of Africa’s great cats is included in the Factsheet, which will be delivered, along with a plush leopard and a personal adoption certificate (suitable for framing) to you or the person of your choice. Your adoption gift also includes an annual African Wildlife Foundation membership, and one-year subscription to our quarterly “African Wildlife News.”
