If you would like to receive multiple adoptions for multiple recipients please place separate orders for each adoption. This will not affect your overall cost as shipping and handling are set for each adoption. Warthogs are among the most unique looking—some say homely—mammals in all of Africa. They have wrinkled gray skin, sparse hair, long, shaggy manes, huge heads that account for one-sixth of their body size, and distinctively curved upper tusks. The namesake ‘warts’ around their eyes, which are much larger in males than in females, are not actually warts, but rather fleshy pads that protect the male warthog’s eyes from his opponent’s tusks. Africa’s warthogs are widely distributed: with the exception of deserts, rainforest, and high mountains, warthogs are found throughout most of sub-Saharan Africa. But outside of national parks and other protected areas, the warthog’s range is declining. They are widely hunted by people and are also killed for raiding crops like wheat, rice, and beans. The warthog’s chief predators in nature are lions and leopards. More information on your Sounder of warthogs is included in the Factsheet, which will be delivered, along with a plush warthog and a personal adoption certificate (suitable for framing) to you or the person of your choice. Your adoption gift also includes an annual African Wildlife Foundation membership, and one-year subscription to our quarterly “African Wildlife News.”
***IMPORTANT INFORMATION*** Please note that all adoptions being shipped to US addresses will be charged a flat shipping rate of $4.95 per adoption. Canadian and Mexico addresses will be charged a flat rate of $18.95 shipping and handling per adoption. Overseas shipping addresses will be charged a flat rate of $24.95 per adoption. |
