If you would like to receive multiple adoptions for multiple recipients please place separate orders for each adoption. This will not affect your overall cost as shipping and handling are set for each adoption. Rhinoceros Family (Diceros bicornis)
Swahili Name: Faru
Country: Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe Female rhinos bear one or two young at a time – that is the extent of the rhino “family.” Black rhinos are notoriously solitary creatures, but the females occasionally have overlapping home territories, and they are quite tender in the care of their offspring. Baby rhinos stay with their mothers for up to four years. AWF works throughout Africa to support black rhino sanctuaries as the best means of recovering this unique species. The black rhinoceros is one of the most seriously endangered species in the world. As recently as 1970, there were an estimated 65,000 living throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Today are only about 3,600 left, many of them in special sanctuaries established for the sole purpose of rhino conservation.
More information on the bond between mother rhinos and their young is included in the Factsheet, which will be delivered, along with a plush rhinoceros and a personal adoption certificate (suitable for framing) to you or the person of your choice. Your adoption gift also includes an annual African Wildlife Foundation membership, and one-year subscription to our quarterly “African Wildlife News.”
***IMPORTANT INFORMATION*** Please note that all adoptions being shipped to North American addresses will be charged a flat shipping rate of $4.95 per adoption. Canadian and Mexico addresses will be charged a flat rate of $18.95 shipping and handling per adoption. Overseas shipping addresses will be charged a flat rate of $24.95 per adoption. |
